Quarter 3 Review - 8/12

011 Contemporary Comedy – New

Several years ago, I enjoyed the first episode of Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully.  I was a little bit less impressed with the continued series, but for some reason, the episode “Minimum Volume” really stuck in my mind.  Hattie Morahan’s character has been persuaded to help Ulijbaan (the urbane alien played by Julian Rhind-Tutt) with his re-education program because of the power it gives her to determine what human literature is worth saving.  When it comes down to it, will she save one Stephen King book in order not to lose half of Jane Austen’s repertoire?  Naturally the alien minions enjoy Mansfield Park (or was it Persuasion or Northanger Abbey?) so much they start a book group.  The series is written by Eddie Robson and directed by Ed Morris and co-stars Peter Davison, Jan Francis, and Nicholas Murchie.  I got the complete first series for Christmas so I’ll be listening to a lot more!
